Der Egri Bikavér ist einer der traditionsreichsten und berühmtesten Weine Ungarns. Der Name, Egri Bikavér, übersetzt sich wortwörtlich in "Stier-Blut". Eine Legende erzählt von einer Schlacht zwischen den Ungarn und den Ottomanen im 16ten Jahrhundert. Die Ungarn gewannen diese Schlacht und schrieben diesen Sieg der stärkenden Kraft ihres Rotweins zu. Die Ottomanen hielten das Getränk für Stier-Blut, wonach später diese Weinsorte benannt wurde. Für die Produktion dieses einzigartigen Weins gelten besondere Bestimmungen (Egri DCH). Eine davon ist, dass die Produktion nur in zwei Regionen in Ungarn stattfinden darf, Eger und Szekszàrk. Eine andere gibt vor, dass der Wein mindestens drei unterschiedliche rote Rebsorten enthalten muss, wobei eine davon immer Kekfránkos ist.

The Egri Bikavér is one of the most traditional and recognized wines from Hungary. Egri Bikáver literally translates to "Bulls Blood". There is a myth which says that back in the 16th century, there was a battle between the Hungarians and Ottomans. The Hungarians won this battle and the victory was attributed to the drinking of red wine, which the Turks thought was ‘bull’s blood’, and thus the origin of the name. There are specific regulations for the production of this unique wine (Egri DHC). One of them is that it can only be produced in two regions in Hungary, Eger and Szekszàrd. Another one is that it should contain at least three different red grape varieties from the region, and Kékfrankos is mandatory.
